Project Update: Scaling Innovation Initiative

A status report from Abigail Bordeaux, the program manager.

October 22, 2013—Since the Scaling Initiative got underway on April 1, 2013, we have formed an Innovation Working Group comprised of Kim Dulin (Chair), Michael Hemment, Sue Kriegsman, David Osterbur, Tracey Robinson, Matthew Sheehy and Ann Whiteside. We have developed a self-assessment form for projects to express interest in scaling their experiment and evaluation criteria to use with projects that are seeking central Harvard Library support, and have recently been testing and refining both processes against projects that wish to scale. Please look for more information very soon about the specific projects that are in the pipeline.

For the rest of the calendar year, we will focus on starting our first projects, completing the hiring for term positions to support technical work associated with scaling and making major updates to the Portal innovation page. Our major goal through June 2014 is to scale at least five projects, representing a mix of local library and shared service projects, project types and sizes.

If you have a project you would like to scale, please visit our Innovation wiki, which includes links to the self-assessment form and the evaluation criteria mentioned above, and please contact us at library_innovation@harvard.edu with your questions or comments.
