We are pleased to share with you the MARS FAQ for Catalogers, which explains the automated authority control service we subscribe to from Backstage Library Works. The MARS process performs bibliographic heading fixes, provides new and changed authority records, and generates summaries and reports that list the headings that the MARS process cannot fix.
This FAQ is one component of the MARS Reports Pilot, in which a team of librarians from Harvard Library is analyzing what resources would be necessary to process the MARS reports. The FAQ is meant to inform the library community about the MARS process, and to serve as the basis for phase 2 of the pilot when some staff will begin processing selected MARS reports (fall/winter 2014).
The FAQ is meant to be dynamic and will expand and change as questions arise.
With great thanks to Allison Powers and members of the MARS Reports Pilot team: Beth Iseminger, Jia Lin Jin, Bruce Trumble, and Karen Carlson Young.
Please send a support request (Footprints ticket) via the Aleph Support Center with any questions.
