Freshman Open House: Come for the Food and Prizes, Stay for the Tours

Whether it’s to research an assignment or find a quiet study space, nearly all Harvard students find themselves using at least one of Harvard’s libraries.

To ensure that the Class of 2021 is familiar with these spaces and resources, Harvard Library will host its annual Freshman Open House on Monday, August 28, from 3–5 pm. Dubbed “Lamont & Beyond,” the event will be held in Lamont — one of the most popular places on campus to pull an all-nighter, with round-the-clock hours and a café that’s open until 3 am.

The open house will include tours of Lamont, the chance to meet and talk with librarians from across the Harvard Library, and information about resources and services, alongside snacks and prizes. Representatives from the Bureau of Study Counsel (which offers tutoring services to undergraduates) and the Language Resource Center (which assists students taking foreign-language courses) will also be there.

Students will be eligible to enter a raffle for a grand prize that includes:

  • a lightweight packable backpack
  • Klean Kanteen water bottle
  • 2 tickets to the Museum of Science
  • 2 tickets to the New England Aquarium
  • 2 AMC Theatre movie passes
  • 2 Brattle Cinema passes
  • MBTA Charlie cards, snacks, and more

Six runner-up prizes, including a ukulele, Echo Dot (2nd generation), 3D virtual reality glasses, and wireless sports headphones will also be awarded.
