September 10, 2013—For two years, June Casey, librarian for open access initiatives and scholarly communication at the Law School, has organized talks featuring Law School faculty members who have recently published books. She has already scheduled three events for September and October—for books by professors Glenn Cohen, Robert C. Bordone and Randall Kennedy.

“These events always have top-notch panels,” said Casey. “The conversations among the panelists, authors and the audience are always amazing. There has never been one after which I didn’t leave energized.”

The events are held beginning at noon and generally last for an hour, making it as easy as possible for students and staff to attend. “I want to encourage Harvard staff members—especially Library staff—to attend,” Casey said. “The topics are always focused on current issues. Audience members don’t need to have backgrounds in law to get a lot out of them.” Past and future topics include Obamacare, discrimination and legal history.

She also stressed that the book talks “offer much more than the introductions to the books. The conversations stem from the books themselves and then flow into much larger discussions.”
