Established in 1938, the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard administers the oldest fellowship program for journalists in the world. More than 1,300 journalists of accomplishment from 91 countries and territories have received Nieman Fellowships and benefited from a year of study and exploration at Harvard University.

The Nieman Collection is not a formal library but rather a small, informal collection of books and periodicals located at the Nieman Foundation headquarters, the Lippmann House, One Francis Ave., in Cambridge. Size of collection: 1,973 books; 40 journals; 14 newspapers Expanded description of collection: The Nieman Collection is not a formal library but rather a small, informal collection of books and periodicals located in a room of the Nieman Foundation's headquarters. The collection is in the process of being catalogued by Library of Congress call number and will be searchable via a Web interface. Nieman alumni/ae authors will be noted in the cataloging data. The collection also includes a number of periodicals: magazines/journals are retained for one year, newspapers for one week.
