| Holdings Description: | Long-term data and operations records for all Harvard Forest tracts from 1907 to present; research notes and manuscripts for all projects related to the institution; complete set of publications; fully cataloged maps, aerial photos, photos, slides, and historic book collections; detailed land-use records for town of Petersham; large collections of material from past directors and researchers, including notes, photos, and correspondence; plant and soil specimens stored in adjacent facility. |
| History: | Formerly a garage, the current archive facility was opened for full-time use in 1996. The main source of material was the old vault archive in the administration building. Archival items have also been collected from local residents, families of Harvard Forest personnel, other storage areas throughout the Harvard Forest complex, and a variety of regional institutions such as the State Archives. Addition are regularly made to the collection as research projects progress. |
