This serves as an update on a water leak at the 625 Massachusetts Ave offices this morning.

  • A leak occurred in a patch in the membrane of the ceiling. Roofers are on site repairing the break and the team is inspecting the rest of the roof.
  • 1.5 boxes of damaged books were sent to for the preservation freezer in Widener. Please contact Daryl Boone for a list of titles.
  • Approximately 50-100 other books have water damage but it was not deemed serious enough to need the freezer. They have been laid out on surfaces with paper towels and are drying. EHS was called to do a mold assessment.
  • The wet ceiling tiles are being removed and humidifiers are drying out the carpet.

June 24, 2014—As shared in May, the Library will implement a beta phase of the Primo discovery system, known as HOLLIS+, on July 15th. Upcoming project milestones include:


The Outreach and Training Team is preparing materials to facilitate a smooth start, as well as studying Primo implementations at peer institutions and developing a LibGuide to go live by July 15 that will include:

  1. FAQs for staff
  2. FAQs for patrons
  3. A HOLLIS+ demo-request form
  4. A feedback form
  5. A calendar of open meetings, demos & drop-ins

June 24, 2014—The National Digital Stewardship Residency Boston (NDSR-Boston) program, which focuses on developing professionals in digital stewardship through post-graduate residencies, announced their first cohort of residents. Each resident will take on a project at their host institution beginning in September 2014.

We are pleased to share with you the MARS FAQ for Catalogers, which explains the automated authority control service we subscribe to from Backstage Library Works. The MARS process performs bibliographic heading fixes, provides new and changed authority records, and generates summaries and reports that list the headings that the MARS process cannot fix.

This FAQ is one component of the MARS Reports Pilot, in which a team of librarians from Harvard Library is analyzing what resources would be necessary to process the MARS reports.
