Wolbach Library of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, organized the course so that library staff can upgrade their skills and learn new tools for data management.

“The main objectives of the course are for participants to learn to extract, analyze and present data using the most-up-to-date techniques,” Erdmann said. “I believe that our staff should have the same skills as the scientists and researchers who patronize their libraries, so they can understand their data needs better and build services that respond better to their needs.”

September 10, 2013—For two years, June Casey, librarian for open access initiatives and scholarly communication at the Law School, has organized talks featuring Law School faculty members who have recently published books. She has already scheduled three events for September and October—for books by professors Glenn Cohen, Robert C. Bordone and Randall Kennedy.

“These events always have top-notch panels,” said Casey. “The conversations among the panelists, authors and the audience are always amazing. There has never been one after which I didn’t leave energized.”

The events are held beginning at noon and generally last for an hour, making it as easy as possible for students and staff to attend. “I want to encourage Harvard staff members—especially Library staff—to attend,” Casey said. “The topics are always focused on...
