Awarding $150,000 to fund creative partnerships between
Harvard faculty and Harvard Library staff



About the Grants

Thanks to the remarkable generosity of Dr. Seng T. Lee, the Harvard Library is delighted to announce the opening of the second round of the Harvard Library–S.T. Lee Innovation Grants.

This year, the library will award $150,000 to fund creative partnerships between Harvard faculty and Harvard Library staff that improve access to information and the experience of using library resources at Harvard University. Innovations can take a variety of forms: technological, cultural, or operational.

All members of the Harvard community are invited to submit proposals; library staff are encouraged to share this information with any faculty who might be interested.

Awards will range from $5,000 to $50,000

Application Details

Proposals are invited from across the Harvard community, but must include at least one Harvard faculty member and one staff member affiliated with Harvard Library. Preference will be given to proposals that align with the Harvard Library Objectives in Action

Proposals should:

  • indicate the level of impact on user needs
  • include a plan for sustainability
  • include a timeframe for completion of the initiative

Applicants are encouraged to take advantage of Harvard Library’s User Research Center in their planning and consult with Claire DeMarco, Assistant Director of Digital Strategies, before submitting their proposal.

Proposals are due by 4 pm on Friday, March 30, 2018.

The application form includes:

  • Contact information for the Harvard library staff member and Harvard faculty member applicants
  • Project summary (1-3 sentences)
  • Project description (250-750 words)
  • Staffing requirements
  • Deliverables
  • Proposed timeline and implementation plan
  • Proposed budget (file upload)

Proposals will be reviewed by a team of judges that include library staff and faculty.

About Dr. Seng T. Lee

Sung T. LeeDr. Seng T. Lee is a philanthropist who has long been a supporter of libraries and education. In the past he has funded libraries in Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Dr. Lee’s interest in improving the experience of using library resources aligns with the Harvard Library’s expanding emphasis on user-focused services.

In addition to support for innovative projects in the Harvard Library, the gift will also make possible the upcoming S.T. Lee Lecture on Leadership and Innovation in Libraries.
