Access Information:Library access is limited to Harvard and MIT students/faculty/staff. Other scholars/researchers are welcome, but must first secure visiting rights with the librarian. Call 495-2878 for more information. Our circulation privileges are the same as the access policy.
Circulation Policy:The loan period for all monographs is 28 days, regardless of the borrower's status. Items marked "Course Reserve Book" circulate overnight only and are due by 1:00pm the following day. Journals and other periodical publications do not circulate.
Holdings Description:Summary description of collection: Selected books and periodicals in support of current research in experimental and theoretical physics. MATERIALS NOT HELD:Applied physics, biophysics, astrophysics, chemical physics, and geophysics. Size of collection: 19,500 monographs; 200 active serials titles; 50 VHS videotapes; 15,000 preprints. Expanded description of collection: The library collects monographs, serials, etc. in the fields of atomic, molecular, nuclear, and particle physics; mathematical and statistical physics; quantum and relativity theory; and condensed matter theory. Copies of departmental theses, and a small collection of VHS videotapes (graduate courses, special lectures, etc.) are also available. We also have one of the largest preprint collections in the greater Boston area.
Services:ILL POLICIES Lending: The library lends materials to other Harvard and non-Harvard libraries. We do not charge for loans, but there is a charge for photocopying over 25 pages. Call: (617)495-2878 for more information. Borrowing: If an item (either book of journal article) is not available at PRL or any of the Cambridge Campus Harvard libraries, we will order it from elsewhere, free of charge. This service is only offered to members of the Physics Department. PHOTOCOPIER PRL photocopier is Crimson-Cash operated.
