The Library Leadership Team (LLT) was formed in December 2012 to work on a multi-year plan based on shared Harvard Library strategic objectives. As one of its first tasks, in order to establish a set of shared strategic objectives, the LLT developed a draft mission statement that exemplifies what we can uniquely achieve together in advancing research, teaching and learning at Harvard. Given this, the LLT invites library staff members to provide input to the draft Harvard Library mission statement.
The mission statement is meant to communicate the unique purpose of what we accomplish together as the Harvard Library in the context of our community's academic endeavors. With that intent, the LLT proposes the following mission statement:
The Harvard Library advances excellence in scholarship by opening the world of knowledge to our communities.
We achieve our mission with a focus on:
Discovery: We enable access to Harvard's extraordinary collections and to materials around the world.
Collaboration: We proactively partner across the Harvard community and beyond, to create information-rich research, teaching and learning environments.
Innovation: We pursue thought leadership in delivering/creating value in the evolving higher education landscape.
Curation, Stewardship and Content: We strategically build and maintain world-class collections that fuel breakthrough thinking.
Your suggestions and comments on the draft mission statement are welcomed. Please plan to attend a session led by members of the Library Leadership Team (LLT)—a schedule of sessions is noted below. Some Schools will hold sessions within their own libraries. Or, if you prefer, please post your comments to the discussion forum or send them to email@example.com.
