Rebelliad illustration: Battle in Commons Hall, drawing, 1819, by William Henry Furness. HUD 2818.75.45A

At the time of the food fight depicted in this drawing, the College commons, or dining hall, was located in University Hall.  This particular food fight was the subject of a satirical four-canto poem, "The Rebelliad" by Augustus Peirce. Both Peirce and Furness were members of the Harvard College Class of 1820.
