I wanted to update you following the news announced last month that Mary Lee Kennedy, senior associate provost for the Harvard Library, will take a position with the New York Public Library in May. I have had many rich conversations about the qualifications and experience a successor should have. These discussions, with members of the Library Board, Faculty Advisory Council, Library Visiting Committee, Library leadership, deans, and others who care deeply about the Library, revealed considerable consensus. Candidates for the position should demonstrate successful experience leading an outstanding library, an exceptional ability to manage change, a talent for building productive relationships and communicating across broad constituencies, and familiarity with the Harvard Library and Harvard University.
We welcome candidate recommendations from the Library community. Please send your suggestions to email@example.com.
I have asked Peggy Newell, deputy provost, to work closely with Mary Lee and the Library leadership to ensure that ongoing Library initiatives remain on track and that a change in leadership runs smoothly. Please send any questions or concerns to Peggy.
