Assessing the Stability of a Handscroll

Like hanging scrolls, the handscroll format is vulnerable to damage in the form of creases, tears, and delamination of layers on the artwork and mounting. The mounting must be securely attached to the wood roller bar at the end and a protective flap with tying cord at the beginning. The cord must be secure to enable the proper tying of the handscroll prior to storage in its box. Untied handscrolls may become deformed and at risk for damage.
