*Manuscript portion from The History of Pendennis, [1850?]* After Vanity Fair’s success, Thackeray’s confident publishers commissioned a new novel. That novel became The History of Pendennis, a semi-autobiographical Bildungsroman, which was serialized from November 1848 to December 1850. As with Thackeray’s other novels, few complete manuscripts exist; portions the manuscript of Pendennis have been scattered among many collections.
