George Daniel (1789-1864). The Modern Dunciad, a Satire, 2nd ed. (London, 1815).

Throughout his “years of fame,” Byron himself became the target of satirists. Daniel’s poem is an imitation of the first satire of Persius, but Pope and Byron are his immediate models. The frontispiece by the caricaturist and book illustrator George Cruikshank (1792-1878) plays on the one that appeared in The Dunciad (1728); his pencil sketch for the frontispiece has been bound to face the engraved version.
