Les Fils Prodigue
The ballet Le Fils Prodigue (The Prodigal Son) is based on the parable in the Gospel According to St. Luke. The title role was danced by Serge Lifar, and Felia Doubrovska portrayed the Seductress. It was practically the last new ballet produced by Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes.
The score was commissioned from the Russian composer Serge Prokofiev, and George Balanchine created the choreography, which he was later to restage for the New York City Ballet. The costumes and décor were designed by the French artist Georges Rouault. |
