Daphnis et Chloé

The ballet Narcisse, produced in the previous season, was a substitute for Daphnis et Chloé, because Ravel had not completed the musical score for the ballet in time for presentation in the 1911 season. Since both ballets were based on classical themes, Bakst’s original décor for Daphnis et Chloé were used in Narcisse instead. These designs were created in 1912, when Daphnis et Chloé was completed and produced.
