Le Tricorne

Le Tricorne (The Three-Cornered Hat), based on an attractive score by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla, became one of the most popular works in the Ballets Russes repertory, reach­ing a total of 234 performances. Picasso designed the costumes and décor, and Léonide Massine choreographed the ballet, scoring one of his greatest personal successes in the role of the Miller. Tamara Karsavina took the part of the faithful and resourceful Miller’s Wife. The ballet was first performed in London 1919, with Ernest Ansermet conducting the orchestra.
