 "Order of services at the first anniversary of the kidnapping of Thomas Sims, April 12, 1852" (Boston, 1852) | Despite the attempt by abolitionists to rescue him from the courthouse, slave catchers returned Thomas Sims to slavery in April of 1851. This broadside announces the order of services held on the first anniversary of Sim's kidnapping which features a discourse and hymn by leading abolitionist and Transcendentalist Theodore Parker. Parker headed the Boston Vigilance Committee, which sought to protect those running from slavery, and backed John Brown as one of the Secret Six, a group that also included Thomas Wentworth Higginson, Samuel Gridley Howe, Franklin Benjamin Sanborn, Gerrit Smith, and George Luther Stearns.
