Presentation copy of the third edition of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist (London: Chapman and Hall, 1842), illustrated by George Cruikshank.

Harry recorded his purchases prior to the publication of his 1910 printed catalogue in a manuscript ledger book. His first serious purchase was a presentation copy of the third edition of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist (London: Chapman and Hall, 1842), illustrated by George Cruikshank. The entry in the ledger shows that he bought it in 1905 (while a sophomore in college) for $200.00 (coded “iyx.xx” in his ledger) from “Campion” (Philadelphia bookseller W. Harry Campion).
