Le Coq d’Or
Le Coq d’Or (The Golden Cockerel) was the featured presentation of the 1914 season. In it, separate casts of singers and dancers performed onstage, the singers arranged on either side of the stage. The décor and the dancers’ costumes were inspired by Russian folk art. Under the direction of Pierre Monteux, who had so successfully led Le Sacre du Printemps in the previous year, the large chorus and orchestra made a striking effect. Tamara Karsavina was praised particularly in the role of the Queen of Shemakhan. |
