L’Astuce Féminine The opera-ballet L’Astuce Féminine (translated as Women’s Wiles, but often given in its Italian form, Le Astuzie Femminili), was first produced in 1920. However, in 1924 it was replaced in the repertory by an extended excerpt of six dances, called Ballet de L’Astuce Féminine. Like the ballets Pulcinella and La Boutique Fantasque, L’Astuce Féminine employed music from an earlier time, arranged and orchestrated for the full ballet orchestra—in this case, music by the Italian baroque composer Domenico Cimarosa, orchestrated and with new recitatives by Ottorino Respighi. The ballet was later known as Cimarosiana. |
