The Christian Graces. Faith, Hope and Charity. New York,
[before April 1865].

This engraving, an insert in an issue of Frank Leslie’s Lady’s Journal, hung on the wall of the bedroom in the home of William Petersen where Abraham Lincoln died on the morning of 15 April 1865. The engraving was purchased by Evert Jansen Wendell (1860-1917) in 1895. In April of that year, William Petersen’s son wrote to Wendell confirming that the print had hung in the room in which Lincoln died. The print was later acquired by William Whiting Nolen in 1919 at the Wendell estate sale.
