Thackeray’s Horace, used at Charterhouse (London: Whittaker, et al, 1822) Thackeray used this copy of Horace at Charterhouse School. On the title page, below his school’s name, Thackeray wrote, “Some people think it a good school.” As an adult, Thackeray was fond of referring to the school as “Slaughterhouse.” Private collection. |
