Thackeray writes to Anny and Minny from Edinburgh, 9 December 1851. In the early 1850s, Thackeray began a lecture tour of Great Britain, finding the work to be extremely profitable. Thackeray’s travels often took him away from his daughters, but he often wrote to them to describe his travels and activities. Writing to his “dear little gurgles” from Edinburgh, he describes the city and his lack of confidence for his upcoming lectures (although they turned out to be quite successful).
