Thackeray’s gold pen.
In Thackeray’s poem “The Pen and the Album,” he wrote,
“I am my master’s faithful, old Gold Pen;
I’ve served him three long years, and drawn since then
Thousands of funny women and droll men.”
In her reminiscences for the 1911 edition of Thackeray’s Christmas books, Thackeray’s daughter Anny wrote that much of her father’s work from the late 1840s through the early 1850s was written with this, his favorite gold pen.
Private collection.
