Materials deal with all aspects of African experience and culture in African nations south of the Sahara.

The Sub-Saharan African Collection at Widener Library includes materials in various formats dealing with all aspects of African experience and culture in African nations south of the Sahara that support research, teaching, and academic programs in the humanities and social sciences, at Harvard and in the larger scholarly community. 

Materials in this collection are produced or published in a wide variety of African languages, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Dutch.

Publications about Africa that are published in other parts of the world are part of collections focused on those countries or regions. Widener Library's Middle Eastern Collection acquires materials from North Africa.
