Each winter, Perry Arrasmith travels from Honolulu to Cambridge. He writes of his collection, "My Hawaiʻi book collection has been a starting point for me to come to grips with the historical forces which might have led an American like me to such an amazing place like Hawaiʻi. It is a reflection of my journey to better understand the complicated socio-cultural, political, and economic forces which define the islands; it has been a way for me to comprehend my place as a haole, or local white of Hawaiʻi, in the state’s ‘melting-pot’ of various identities."
