Augmented and Virtual Reality Studio

Studio space and technology for research, learning, and teaching with augmented and virtual reality

The AR/VR studio Cabot Science Library, called The Hive, allows you to craft and explore shared virtual worlds, data visualizations, and immersive designs using our Valve Index headset and a range of software.

Appointments are required to access equipment in the room. Request a reservation by emailing Cabot Library.

Get help

Workshops, including Immersive Design and Make-a-Metaverse are offered regularly. Or, you can schedule a consultation with Matt Cook, Digital Scholarship Program Manager.

Equipment and Technology

The library offers equipment and technology for any member of the Harvard community to use. While this list is always changing, some items we offer include:

Hardware

  • Headsets (HMDs): Valve Index, HTC Vive
  • Graphic cards (GPU): NVidia 1080
  • Display: Large-scale monitors, interior and exterior (public-facing) for demonstrations

Software

  • Design: Adobe Medium, Gravity Sketch, Tiltbrush
  • Development: BigscreenVR, Unity3D
  • Collaboration: Spatial.io, Mozilla Hubs
