I have worked with GIS and digital mapping since 1989. I began my career with a state agency in Arizona, provided GIS support for a coal mining company while completing my master's degree investigating recreational use patterns and impact in a Colorado wilderness area. After completing my degree I worked for the National Park Service in California, then moved back to Arizona to develop science curricula using GIS as a teaching platform. I then taught GIS for two years before transitioning to GIS and mapping support in academic libraries, first at Oregon State, and then at Harvard, where I have been since 2006.
