Winter Recess Schedule 2025-2026

Ask a Librarian

Ask a Librarian, including chat and email, will be suspended from 5:00 pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, through Thursday, January 1, 2026, for the holiday break. Any questions received during this period will be answered beginning Friday, January 2, 2026.

Get It! Services

Resource Sharing services will be suspended from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, through Sunday, January 4, 2026. Any requests made during this time will be processed beginning Monday, January 5, 2026, in order of receipt.

Offsite storage requests placed after 3pm on December 22, 2025 will be available on Monday, January 5, 2026. 

Harvard Depository/ReCAP Requests

Requests for library materials should be made by 3pm on Monday, December 22, 2025, to provide the best chance for library pickup by Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Requests made after this time will not be available until Monday, January 5, 2026. For more information, contact hl_access_services@harvard.edu.

HOLLIS Special Requests

Many Harvard Libraries will have limited hours during Winter Recess and January Term. For specific library details, visit Harvard's Locations and Hours page. Special Collections items housed at the Harvard Depository must be requested by Friday, December 19, 2025, for use before the holiday break. Items from the Harvard Depository requested after the 19th may not be delivered until Monday, January 5, 2026.

Imaging Services will be closed from noon on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to 9:00am Monday, January 5, 2026. Any copy orders placed during this period will be addressed during the first week of January.

Requests for In Process Materials (items that are on order or in work orders)

Patrons can place requests for unreceived/On Order materials and materials in Library Processing/Work Orders throughout the winter recess. Requests received after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, through Wednesday, January 1, 2026, will be addressed as soon as possible starting on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Records Management

Retrieval requests for materials in offsite records storage must be submitted by 2:00 pm on Monday, December 22 2025, for guaranteed delivery on Friday, December 20, 2024. Any requests for deliveries submitted after this time will be fulfilled starting on Monday,  January 5, 2026, when service for records management transactions resumes. Library Systems Support

Emergency technical support will be "on call" in the event of any major systems failure. In the event of a Library Systems emergency, contact the HUIT Operations Desk at (617) 495-7777 or it_help@harvard.edu. Please specify that you are calling about a library system.

If non-emergency communications cannot wait until LTS reopens on Friday, January 2, 2026, notify us via the LTS Support Center.

Library Technology Hours and Services

The Library Technology Services will be closed starting at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 through Thursday, January 1, 2026. Regular office hours will resume on Friday, January 2, 2026. Support tickets will be collected on business days throughout break. Any urgent messages will receive a response within 24 hours of review.
