May-Crane Fellowships are designed to encourage undergraduate engagement with Harvard Library and to help advance the careers of graduate students. Widener Library Architectural Model

To support the upcoming flagship Discovery Center space in Widener Library, Ananya and Livia designed and built a section architectural model of Widener Library.
The model will be the centerpiece of a display on Widener’s history and significance as a Beaux-Arts landmark (completed 1915 by the Horace Trumbauer firm), a memorial to Harry Elkins Widener and the Titanic tragedy, and an iconic symbol of Harvard and its library system — the largest academic library in the world.
Built with a light-stained plywood, the model nods to the marble veining and variation of the building’s exterior, while also reflecting the cohesiveness of the library ecosystem as a whole. While the model may seem like an overly simplified depiction of the real building, Ananya and Livia were careful to construct something that is comprehensible to all viewers.
