Did you know that Harvard-Yenching Library has a K-pop Fandom Collection?

This collection contains commercial goods produced primarily for fans of Korean musical groups and entertainers and serves as material evidence of the cultural phenomenon commonly referred to as K-pop or the Korean Wave (한류 = hallyu) from its early development in the 1990s to the present.

This display is just a small sample of the library’s collection of light sticks, photo albums, fan club kits, charms, concert recordings, and more.

This semester students in EAFM 123 Korean Stars will take inspiration from the items in the K-pop fandom collection to design merchandise for a Korean star of their choosing. They’ll use 3D modeling to bring their creations to life. Check back later in the semester to see what they’ve created!
