Access genealogical research records from computers in the Harvard-Yenching Library.

FamilySearch.org is a tool for genealogical research. It holds digitized copies of documents such as birth and death certificates, census data, cemetery records, and more. While FamilySearch is free for all to use, some documents are only available to be viewed at an affiliate library, not from home or on personal devices.

Harvard-Yenching Library is an affiliate library for FamilySearch. The expanded FamilySearch.org database is accessible through any of the computers located in the area around Yenching's circulation desk.

Things to know

  • You can can create a free account on the FamilySearch website.
  • Members of the public interested in accessing the expanded FamilySearch database are welcome to visit Harvard-Yenching Library during regular business hours. You'll be asked to present a photo ID and let a staff member know you are there to use FamilySearch.org.
  • While Harvard-Yenching Library provides access to more documents than you can view at home, there are still some documents that are only available at a FamilySearch Center. The nearest one is Mount Hope Massachusetts FamilySearch Center in Boston.
