Dr. Alex R. Hodges is the HGSE Librarian and Director of the Monroe C. Gutman Library at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he is also Lecturer on Education. He serves as a member of the HGSE senior leadership, the Library Directors' Round Table, and the Harvard Library Leadership Team. With Maureen Sullivan, Alex co-chairs the HGSE-based Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians executive education program.

Prior to joining HGSE in 2017, Alex served as a tenured faculty member at American University in Washington, DC. During that time, he was associate director for instruction and research services, curriculum materials and education librarian, and affiliate associate professor of education in the AU School of Education. Within AU's teacher education program, he has taught educational technology integration, social media literacy, and critical literacy/children's literature undergraduate and graduate courses. At HGSE, Alex has taught S-553: Learning Lab for Researching and Creating Knowledge.

Alex has also worked within library systems at the National Gallery of Art (U.S.), the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of Florida. Alex earned his Doctor of Education degree in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in educational technology at the University of Florida's College of Education. His dissertation research focused on librarians' perceptions of their information literacy and digital scholarship instruction. In addition to his Master of Library Science degree, Alex holds a graduate certificate in TESOL and applied linguistics, and a B.A. in English, focusing on William Faulkner and the literature of the U.S. South, with an outside concentration in print journalism.
